Help
Short answers about CoParity on the iPhone, on Android and in the browser. If something’s missing, write to us.
Where this page says “Settings” on its own, it means the gear at the top right in the app.
Your account
How do I create an account?
- In the app, tap “Create account”, enter your email address and tap “Send code”.
- Enter the six-digit code from the email and tap “Verify”. Or open the link in the email on this phone.
- Choose a password of at least 8 characters, add your first name, then tap “Finish account”.
- Give your family a name and tap “Create family”. Then add your child’s first name and date of birth and tap “Add child”.
What if no code arrives?
The code is valid for 15 minutes, and the email sometimes ends up in spam. If your address already has an account, you get an email saying so instead of a code. In that case, sign in with your password or tap “Forgot password?”.
How do I reset my password?
On the sign-in screen, tap “Forgot password?” and enter your account’s email address. The code or link in the email lets you choose a new password.
How do I sign in in the browser?
At app.coparity.de, enter your account’s email address and password. An account is created only in the app; if your account has no password yet, set one in the app first.
Starting alone and inviting
Can I start on my own?
Yes. The plan and your calendar work without an invitation: you enter the plan, and it can already show in your calendar. Questions and notices come once an invitation is accepted. The printable sheet is part of the family unlock and needs an agreed plan.
How do I send an invitation?
In Settings, tap “Invite co-parent”, enter the email address and tap “Create invitation”. The invitation goes out as an email with a link, and you can share the link yourself too.
The link is valid for 14 days. Under “Open invitations” you can create a new link or revoke the invitation.
I got an invitation. How do I join?
Open the link on the phone where CoParity is installed. Sign in with the address the invitation went to, or create an account with it. Then tap “Join family”; you don’t create a family of your own for this. Only the account with that address can join.
The plan
How do I enter the plan?
On the plan screen, tap the plus at the top right, “Enter a plan”. Set the rhythm, the start date and the changeovers with day, time and place, plus any holidays and exceptions. Then tap “Enter”. This works on the iPhone.
When is the plan agreed?
As soon as the other household confirms it with “Fine by me”, on the iPhone or on Android. Until then the plan reads “Entered, not yet confirmed”, and after that “Last confirmed on” with the date. Nobody has to decline: without a confirmation, the plan simply stays entered.
How do I change the plan?
Use “Enter a plan” to enter a new version. It’s a proposal: the current plan stays until the other household agrees.
How do the school holidays get into the plan?
In the “Enter a plan” form, tap “Bring in school holidays”, choose the German state and the school year, and set for each break: “with me”, “at the other home” or “half and half”. The holidays become part of the new plan version. Who chooses first alternates every year; the plan says so.
When things change
How do I ask for a change?
On the plan screen, tap “More” (the three dots) at the top right, then “Once different”. Say from when to when it should be different and where the child would be instead. Then tap “Propose”.
The app sets the reply-by time: 48 hours after the question. So a question needs at least 48 hours’ notice. The answer is “Fine by me” or “Does not work”, and with no answer the plan stands.
Questions are possible once the plan is agreed.
What if I’m running late?
That’s too short notice for a question. Instead, you give a different time for the changeover on the same day: when the period is too close, “Once different” offers “Give a time”.
Choose the changeover, the time and, if you like, a reason, then tap “Send”. The other household sees the time in the plan, and gets a notification if they want one. There’s nothing to reply to. The plan itself stays as it is, and the notice is gone from the app at the end of the day.
Notices also need an agreed plan.
School
How do I enter school and class?
On the plan screen, tap “School” and choose the child. Under the name, enter school, class and state. This costs nothing and works on the iPhone and in the browser.
How do I set up the timetable?
Under “School”, create a term with start and end, then the subjects with colours, then the lessons for each day. For another term you carry the lesson times over from the previous one. Keeping the timetable is part of the family unlock; both of you can always read it.
On a laptop the same works at app.coparity.de, with a print view too.
How do I enter a test?
Under “School”, in “Tests and study sessions”, tap “Add a test”: subject, day, time, and with “Add a study session” the time to study. The test then sits in the plan, with both parents and in the calendar. Two days after the test it is gone from the app.
This works on the iPhone, on Android and in the browser and is part of the family unlock.
How do I store a report card?
Under “School”, in “Report cards”, tap “Add a report card” and take or choose the scan. Before the first one the app shows “Filing report cards” with the release; tap “Release”. The report card is then kept encrypted with the documents. Every parent of the family sees it, the child does not; the app reads nothing from it. “Withdraw the release” stops further filing; filed report cards stay until you delete them.
Calendar
How does the plan get into my calendar?
You set that up in Settings under “Into your calendar”. There are two ways:
- “In a calendar on this iPhone”: the app enters the times directly, into a new calendar called “CoParity” or one you already have. For this, iOS asks for full access to your calendars. On Android the app writes the times into the phone’s calendar.
- “In Outlook or on another device”: a calendar subscription through an address that keeps itself up to date. “Set up the subscription” creates the address, and “Share the address” takes it to Outlook, Google or a calendar on your computer. A calendar subscription needs no permission.
What shows up in my calendar?
The plan and your children’s appointments, tests and study sessions included. Titles and places only appear if you switch them on; otherwise it’s just the time and the first name. Anyone who can view your calendar can read these entries, and with a work calendar that can include your employer.
How do I bring in events from my calendar?
In the “Enter an appointment” form, tap “From my calendar” and choose the event. This is part of the family unlock; adding appointments by hand costs nothing.
The kids
How do I show a child without an account its day?
In Settings, tap “Open Hanna’s view” (it shows your child’s name) and hand over your phone. The view shows the sentence of the day, a timeline and, under “If something happens”, the “Emergency 112” button. “Close” takes you back.
Does my child get an account of their own?
Only if both parents consent. The consent text is written for the child and says what it sees and who sees what it sees.
With an account of its own, the child signs in and sees “Where you sleep” with the next days, “This is what was agreed” and “Your school” with timetable and tests. It cannot change anything and does not see report cards.
Android and browser
What works on Android?
The Android app is to follow on Google Play; there is no date yet. Until then an account is created only in the app on the iPhone. The Android app will confirm the plan, propose and answer changes, give a time and enter tests; setting up a plan and buying stay on the iPhone.
What works in the browser?
At app.coparity.de you read the plan, answer questions and keep the school: terms, subjects, timetable, tests and study sessions, with a print view for the timetable. You sign in with the app’s account.
Notifications on your phone
How do I choose what the app tells me about?
In Settings, under “Notifications”, you switch each kind on or off: the plan, “Once different”, changeover notices or appointments, for example. They also need to be allowed for CoParity in your phone’s settings, and that page in the app takes you there.
What does a notification say?
No notification names a person, a day or an answer, and the app icon never shows a number. You see what’s new when you open the app.
The “CoParity Familie” unlock
What does CoParity cost?
The plan, the calendar, questions, notices, school holidays, the child’s view, pick-up permissions, the emergency number and health notes cost nothing. The “CoParity Familie” unlock is €4.99 a month or €49.00 a year in Germany and Austria. Elsewhere, the price is the one the App Store shows before you buy.
Both renew automatically; you can cancel at any time, effective at the end of the current period.
What does the unlock add?
Once unlocked, you keep the timetable, tests and study sessions, store report cards, create the printable sheet for the plan, for school or after-school care, and bring in events from your own calendar. One purchase covers the whole family, on Android and in the browser too. What’s entered stays readable even after the unlock ends.
How do I buy the unlock?
Wherever a feature is part of the unlock, the app on the iPhone shows “See unlock options”: with the sheet (“More”, “Share as a sheet” on the plan screen), in School on an action with a lock, and under “From my calendar” in “Enter an appointment”. The “Unlock the family” page shows the price and term before you buy. On Android and in the browser nothing is sold; the purchase applies there too.
How do I cancel?
Only through Apple, in your Apple Account settings: on iPhone, open the Settings app, tap your name, then “Subscriptions”. The unlock keeps running until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
How do I restore a purchase?
On the “Unlock the family” page, tap “Restore purchases”, for example after moving to a new iPhone. You get to that page through “See unlock options”.
Your data
How can I see what is stored about me?
In Settings, at the very bottom under “Access and erasure”, tap “Your data”. It lists what is stored for your account, and “Save as a file” gives you all of it as a machine-readable file.
How do I delete my account?
- Open Settings, the gear at the top right.
- At the very bottom, under “Access and erasure”, tap “Your data”.
- Tap “Erase what concerns only me” and confirm with “Erase”.
This erases what concerns only you. Your account is anonymised: the email address, name and password are removed, and you can no longer sign in with it. What also concerns the other household, such as the plan, stays. This cannot be undone.
Deleting the account doesn’t end an unlock; you can only cancel that through Apple (see How do I cancel?). The details, including complete deletion, are in section 8 of the app’s privacy policy (in German; the English translation is being prepared).
Where are the privacy policy and the terms?
- Privacy policy of the app: what the app stores, who sees it and when it is deleted
- Privacy on this website
- Terms of use
- Legal notice
In the app, the privacy notice is in Settings under “Access and erasure”.
Coming from the previous app
I used claro before. What changes?
claro becomes CoParity. The app has been rebuilt, and this version replaces the previous app “Claro Live CoParenting”. For the new app you create a new account with “Create account”. The previous subscriptions are no longer offered. If one is still running, cancel it in your Apple Account settings (see How do I cancel?).
